Cuaresma’s Challenge to Graduates: Lead, Innovate, and Build Bridges

 


"Everything is not easy, and everything must be taken step by step." With these words, Dr. Joe-An G. Cuaresma set the tone for an inspiring keynote address that resonated deeply with graduate students. She emphasized that growth comes with wisdom and that the path to academic and professional success requires perseverance, purpose, and connection. Encouraging the audience to embrace innovation, she underscored the importance of adapting to change while staying true to one's values and mission.

Dr. Cuaresma brings a wealth of expertise in the fields of Physics and Mathematics, having earned her Master of Arts in Teaching College Physics (MATCP) as a CHED-FAFE scholar at the University of Immaculate Conception (UIC), Davao City. She further honed her skills by completing her Doctor of Education major in Educational Management at Southern Mindanao College. With extensive international training, including being a scholar of the Korea International Corporation Academy (KOICA) and the Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC), Dr. Cuaresma has gained valuable insights into global educational leadership. She currently holds significant roles, such as Vice President for Mindanao of the Leadership Education in Academy and Development Global (LEAD Global) and Board of Director for Academy Development for Global Leadership in Education-Philippines (ADGLE), making her a powerful voice in the field of education.

During her address, Dr. Cuaresma introduced three guiding principles that serve as a foundation for both personal and professional growth. The first principle, "Lead with Purpose," urged students to become leaders in their own fields by letting their actions reflect their values. She emphasized that knowing one's purpose is vital in making informed decisions that create meaningful impact.

Her second principle, "Embrace Innovation," encouraged students to remain open to new ideas, methodologies, and advancements in technology. She highlighted the importance of adapting to change, particularly in the digital age where artificial intelligence plays a crucial role in educational progress. By equipping oneself with the latest innovations, individuals can foster continuous learning and development.

Finally, "Build Connection" underscored the need for strong networks and collaborations. Dr. Cuaresma stressed that fostering relationships within academic and professional communities creates an environment where success is more attainable. She noted that with more linkages and support systems, the journey towards academic and career excellence becomes smoother and more fulfilling.

Dr. Cuaresma’s message served as a call to action for students to uphold the mission and vision of Western Mindanao State University. She inspired them to not only strive for academic excellence but also to carry forward the principles of leadership, adaptability, and meaningful connections.
