The College of Teacher Education (CTE) Graduate School professors: Dr. Helengrace A. Lao and Dr. Berhana I. Flores, along with a faculty member from the WMSU-ILS elementary department, Dr. Lilibeth Eyo took a key role as learning exemplar writers in the collaborative project between the Philippine Normal University (PNU) and the Department of Education (DepEd) through an In-house Writeshop in Metro Manila, intended for the development of the MATATAG learning resource package; a project that spanned from October 2023-June 2024.
Faculty members from different State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) nationwide pooled their knowledge and expertise to review and unpack the curriculum guides in their respective learning areas; with Dr. Lao and Dr. Eyo on Araling Panlipunan, and Dr. Flores on Science and Technology. Collaborative efforts were also made in crafting teacher support materials such as lesson exemplars, student worksheets, and teacher’s manuals.
Given the novelty of the MATATAG curriculum, Dr. Lao expressed that she sees this project as an opportunity to aid the DepEd teachers in its implementation. “The experience is truly rewarding and fulfilling because we’re able to help DepEd teachers through our lesson exemplars, which can serve as their reference in terms of content and innovative teaching and learning activities and assessment.”
